Zombi

I bought the ZombiU bundle for the Wii U back in 2013 and kinda  shelved the game for a few years. Here's the thing. This is one of those games that truly utilized the Wii U gamepad in a more interactive way, which was cool. But for me, it just got in the way of the gameplay and I moved on to something else. So April's free game for Playstation Plus was Zombi (minus the U) and I decided to give it another go. This is a really cool game if you're looking for a Zombie adventure. Not your typical FPS by any means, but it's a true survival game. I kept thinking, killing these zombies is easy. Smash 'em in the head with the cricket bat, shoot them in the head when I need to, and throw molotov cocktails for crispy good measure. So feeling like a boss, I'd tend to go Rambo through areas and try to kill everything because these zombie bitches are slow. I swear the game set me up to feel this way, because then I was cornered by a horde of zombos at the loading dock of the supermarket. Of course I died. When you die, you awaken in the safehouse as a new survivor and must venture back to where your previous character died (who is now a zombie) and kill them to regain the items in your bag. Needless to say I felt my ego knocked down a peg or two. You can't underestimate the undead, especially when their numbers are large.

I was hoping that there would be some extra content and that the PS4 version's graphics would be more polished, but this was more or less a port with higher resolution. The Wii U version had a dirty lense feature that wasn't able to be turned off (which I didn't care for) but on the PS4, the lens feature wasn't available at all. All in all it's a decent game. The story is lackluster, the graphics could be better, and the controls are clunky. What they get right is the atmosphere of the game. Made me think of 28 Days Later more than a Romero film, which is cool. I'd have welcomed a sequel to this game or something within the universe of this title, but apparently the sequel was canned after poor sales thanks to Nintendo. Definitely worth playing through since it's free this month.

I give Zombi a 75/100.... brains
